What the SOF olympiads are
The Science Olympiad Foundation runs school-level competitive exams taken by children across India, of which the International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) and the National Science Olympiad (NSO) are the two this site prepares for. Both are multiple choice, sat at school, and structured in sections that get progressively less like a school test and more like a reasoning puzzle.
The section most children have never seen before is logical reasoning — patterns, coding and decoding, mirror images, direction sense — which sits outside the school syllabus entirely. The other reliable surprise is the Achievers section, a small number of multi-step questions carrying three marks each, where a handful of questions can be worth as much as ten ordinary ones.
We are not affiliated with the Science Olympiad Foundation. Our material follows the published paper pattern, but question counts, marks and syllabus do change between years — check the current brochure on the official SOF website before building a timetable around any of it.
Why every worksheet has a worked solution, not just an answer key
An answer key tells a child what to write. A worked solution tells them what to think. When a Class 4 student gets a fraction-comparison question wrong and the only feedback is “the answer was C,” they've learned nothing they can carry into the next question. When the solution walks through why C is right — convert to a common denominator, compare numerators, here's the step where the trap answer looks tempting — they've learned a method, and methods transfer between questions in a way memorised letters never do.
The mock exams work the same way. Submit one and it scores itself immediately, then shows the working for every question, not just which ones were right. That review screen is the part worth spending time on — a wrong answer stops being a dead end and becomes the exact spot the misunderstanding happened.
Who this is for — and who should wait
If your child is roughly on pace with their regular school syllabus and you want to build olympiad-level application on top of that, pick their class above, work through the topic-wise worksheets for the weaker subject first, then move to a mock exam once a topic feels solid.
If your child is significantly behind the regular school curriculum for their class, olympiad worksheets are the wrong first move. They assume the base topic is already understood and ask your child to stretch it — they won't teach the topic from scratch. Shore up the curriculum gap with grade-level material first; the olympiad worksheets make a lot more sense once that foundation is there.
How to start
- 1. Pick your child's class above.
- 2. Work through the topic-wise worksheets for the weaker subject first.
- 3. Read every worked solution, right or wrong — a right answer for the wrong reason is worth catching too.
- 4. Once a topic feels solid, take the matching mock exam and review it the same way, question by question.
Frequently Asked Questions
▸What is SOF?
SOF is the Science Olympiad Foundation, the organisation behind the IMO, NSO and several other school-level Olympiad exams. We're independent practice material, not an SOF product.
▸What's the difference between IMO and NSO?
IMO is the maths olympiad, NSO is the science one. Same multiple-choice, timed format, different subject.
▸Are the worksheets really free?
Yes. All 189 topic-wise worksheets download as free, print-ready PDFs — no account needed.
▸Do I need to sign up to take a mock exam?
Downloading worksheets doesn't need an account. Taking an online mock exam does — a free login, so your child's score and progress save properly.
▸How are the mock exams scored?
Immediately on submission. You see the score and, question by question, the full worked solution for every answer, not just which ones were wrong.
▸Which classes are covered?
Class 1 through Class 10, with both IMO (Maths) and NSO (Science) worksheets and mock exams at every level — 36 mock exams in total.
