About our Coloring Pages worksheets
Colouring is not the filler activity it looks like. Staying inside an outline is the same control problem as staying on a line, practised without the pressure of forming a letter correctly — which is why occupational therapists reach for colouring long before they reach for handwriting drills. The pages here are drawn with thick, well-spaced outlines so younger children can succeed at them, and there is a wide range of subjects: animals, vehicles, seasons, festivals and characters. The variety matters more than it seems, because the child who colours for twenty minutes because they love the picture gets twenty minutes of fine motor practice. For children who find colouring frustrating, two adjustments help immediately: break the crayons in half, which makes a fist grip physically impossible, and tape the page to a wall so they work on a vertical surface. Both put the hand into a better position without anyone having to correct them.
