What this worksheet covers
This is an eighteen-question practice worksheet on motion, measurement, light and shadows for Class 6, written to the pattern of the SOF National Science Olympiad (NSO). It carries 24 marks and is designed to be attempted in 45 minutes, split across three sections — Scientific Reasoning, Applying What You Know and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key — so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.
Skills your child practises
- Applied problem-solving on motion, measurement, light and shadows at Class 6 level
- Working accurately against a time limit, as the real paper demands
- Scientific Reasoning questions in the olympiad format
- Applying What You Know questions in the olympiad format
- Achievers Section questions in the olympiad format
- Reading worked solutions to find the step that went wrong
How to use it
- 1There are 18 questions in this worksheet. All questions are compulsory.
- 2Each question has four options (A), (B), (C) and (D). Exactly one option is correct.
- 3Questions 1–15 carry 1 mark each. Questions 16–18 (Achievers Section) carry 3 marks each.

1. The SI unit of length is the _______.
- AMetrecorrect
- BCentimetre
- CKilometre
- DMillimetre
Solution: The SI (standard international) unit of length is the metre. Centimetres, millimetres and kilometres are all derived from it.2. A car travels 90 km in 1 hour 30 minutes. What is its speed in km/h?
- A45 km/h
- B135 km/h
- C75 km/h
- D60 km/hcorrect
Solution: 1 hour 30 minutes = 1.5 hours.
Speed = distance ÷ time = 90 ÷ 1.5 = 60 km/h.3. Consider the following statements.(i) A body can have circular and periodic motion at the same time.(ii) Light needs a material medium to travel through.(iii) The size of a shadow depends on the positions of the source, object and screen.Which of the statements is/are correct?
- A(i) and (ii) only
- B(ii) and (iii) only
- C(i) and (iii) onlycorrect
- DAll three
Solution: Statement (i) is true — the hands of a clock move in circles and repeat at regular intervals, so their motion is both circular and periodic. Statement (ii) is false; light travels perfectly well through the vacuum of space, which is how sunlight reaches us. Statement (iii) is true. Hence (i) and (iii).
