What this worksheet covers
This is an eighteen-question practice worksheet on living organisms, body movements and habitat for Class 6, written to the pattern of the SOF National Science Olympiad (NSO). It carries 24 marks and is designed to be attempted in 45 minutes, split across three sections — Scientific Reasoning, Applying What You Know and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key — so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.
Skills your child practises
- Applied problem-solving on living organisms, body movements and habitat at Class 6 level
- Working accurately against a time limit, as the real paper demands
- Scientific Reasoning questions in the olympiad format
- Applying What You Know questions in the olympiad format
- Achievers Section questions in the olympiad format
- Reading worked solutions to find the step that went wrong
How to use it
- 1There are 18 questions in this worksheet. All questions are compulsory.
- 2Each question has four options (A), (B), (C) and (D). Exactly one option is correct.
- 3Questions 1–15 carry 1 mark each. Questions 16–18 (Achievers Section) carry 3 marks each.

1. The surroundings in which an organism lives is called its _______.
- AHabitatcorrect
- BAdaptation
- CPopulation
- DCommunity
Solution: A habitat is the place where an organism lives and finds food, water, shelter and a mate. Adaptation is the feature that makes it fit for that habitat.2. A camel can survive many days in the desert without water. Which adaptation is least responsible for this?
- AIt passes very little urine
- BIt stores fat in its hump
- CIt has long eyelashescorrect
- DIt hardly sweats
Solution: Long eyelashes keep sand out of the eyes — useful in a desert, but nothing to do with saving water. Passing little urine, sweating hardly at all and breaking down the hump's fat for energy and water are all directly about water conservation.3. Consider the following statements.(i) All living things need to respire.(ii) Adaptation happens within the lifetime of a single individual whenever it needs it.(iii) A cactus stem carries out photosynthesis.Which of the statements is/are correct?
- A(i) and (ii) only
- B(ii) and (iii) only
- C(i) and (iii) onlycorrect
- DAll three
Solution: Statement (i) is true — every living thing releases energy from food by respiration. Statement (ii) is false; adaptations develop slowly over many generations, not within one animal's lifetime because it wants them. Statement (iii) is true; the cactus's green stem takes over food-making since the leaves are reduced to spines. Hence (i) and (iii).
