What this worksheet covers
This is a fifteen-question practice worksheet on food and nutrition for Class 3, written to the pattern of the SOF National Science Olympiad (NSO). It carries 21 marks and is designed to be attempted in 40 minutes, split across three sections — Scientific Reasoning, Applying What You Know and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key — so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.

1. Foods that give us energy are rich in _______.

- ABread contains fat
- BBread contains protein
- CBread contains starchcorrect
- DBread contains vitamin C

Consider the following statements.(i) A balanced diet is exactly the same for every person.(ii) Drinking plenty of clean water is an important part of a healthy diet.(iii) Junk food such as chips and cold drinks gives plenty of energy but very few nutrients.Which of the statements is/are correct?
- A(i) and (ii) only
- B(ii) and (iii) onlycorrect
- C(i) and (iii) only
- DAll three
Solution: Statement (i) is false — a growing child, a labourer and an elderly person all need different amounts of food, so a balanced diet differs from person to person. Statements (ii) and (iii) are both true. Hence (ii) and (iii).
