What this worksheet covers
This is a fifteen-question practice worksheet on earth and the sky for Class 2, written to the pattern of the SOF National Science Olympiad (NSO). It carries 18 marks and is designed to be attempted in 35 minutes, split across three sections — Day and Night, Land, Water and Sky and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key — so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.

1. The sun gives us _______.
- ALight and heatcorrect
- BRain
- CWind only
- DSoil
Solution: The sun gives us light and heat. Without it there would be no day, no warmth and no plants.2. Why do we have day and night?
- ABecause the sun switches off at night
- BBecause the earth spins, so only the half facing the sun has daycorrect
- CBecause clouds cover the sun
- DBecause the moon hides the sun every night
Solution: The earth keeps spinning like a top. Sunlight can fall on only one half of it at a time, so only the half facing the sun has day while the other half has night. One full spin takes 24 hours.3. When it is day time in India, it is night time on the other side of the earth. Why?
- ABecause the earth is round and only the half facing the sun gets lightcorrect
- BBecause the sun moves away
- CBecause the other side has more clouds
- DBecause the moon blocks the sun there
Solution: Since the earth is a ball, sunlight reaches only the half turned towards the sun. So while that half has day, the half turned away has night. As the earth spins, the two halves swap over.
