What this worksheet covers

This is an eighteen-question practice worksheet on animals — habitat, adaptation and life cycles for Class 5, written to the pattern of the SOF National Science Olympiad (NSO). It carries 24 marks and is designed to be attempted in 40 minutes, split across three sections — Know Your Animals, Apply and Reason and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key — so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.

   Solution: Amphibians can live both in water and on land. A frog begins life in water as a tadpole (breathing through gills) and later lives on land as an adult (breathing through lungs and moist skin). Whales are mammals, crocodiles are reptiles and penguins are birds.

   Solution: Both statements are true. The thick fat (blubber) and the two layers of fur trap body heat and stop it escaping into the icy air, which is exactly why the polar bear can survive there. So R is the correct explanation of A.
