What this worksheet covers
This is a fifteen-question practice worksheet on large numbers and place value for Class 4, written to the pattern of the SOF International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). It carries 21 marks and is designed to be attempted in 40 minutes, split across three sections β Mathematical Reasoning, Everyday Mathematics and Reasoning and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key β so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.

1. What is the place value of 6 in 4,62,375?
- A6000
- B60,000correct
- C6,00,000
- D600
Solution: In the Indian system the places from the right are ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands and lakhs. The digit 6 sits in the ten thousands place, so its place value is 6 × 10,000 = 60,000.2. A factory made 45,678 bulbs in a year. Rounded off to the nearest ten thousand, that is about _______ bulbs.
- A40,000
- B45,000
- C50,000correct
- D46,000
Solution: Look at the thousands digit, which is 5. Since it is 5 or more, we round up to the next ten thousand: 50,000 bulbs.3. Using the digits 5, 0, 3, 9 and 1 once each, what is the greatest five-digit number that can be formed?
- A95,310correct
- B10,359
- C95,301
- D93,510
Solution: To make the greatest number, arrange the digits from largest to smallest: 9, 5, 3, 1, 0.
This gives 95,310.
