What this worksheet covers
This is a fifteen-question practice worksheet on factors and multiples for Class 4, written to the pattern of the SOF International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). It carries 21 marks and is designed to be attempted in 40 minutes, split across three sections β Mathematical Reasoning, Everyday Mathematics and Reasoning and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key β so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.
Skills your child practises
- Applied problem-solving on factors and multiples at Class 4 level
- Working accurately against a time limit, as the real paper demands
- Mathematical Reasoning questions in the olympiad format
- Everyday Mathematics and Reasoning questions in the olympiad format
- Achievers Section questions in the olympiad format
- Reading worked solutions to find the step that went wrong
How to use it

1. Which of these is a factor of 24?
- A5
- B6correct
- C7
- D9
Solution: A factor divides a number exactly, leaving no remainder. 24 ÷ 6 = 4 exactly, so 6 is a factor. 24 does not divide exactly by 5, 7 or 9.2. Sweets are to be packed equally into bags of 6 or bags of 8, with none left over either way. What is the smallest number of sweets needed?
- A14
- B24correct
- C36
- D48
Solution: We need the LCM of 6 and 8.
Multiples of 6: 6, 12, 18, 24, 30β¦
Multiples of 8: 8, 16, 24, 32β¦
The smallest number in both lists is 24 sweets.3. Two bells ring together at 6 a.m. One rings every 12 minutes and the other every 18 minutes. At what time will they next ring together?
- A6:30 a.m.
- B7:00 a.m.
- C6:48 a.m.
- D6:36 a.m.correct
Solution: They ring together again after the LCM of 12 and 18 minutes.
Multiples of 12: 12, 24, 36, 48β¦
Multiples of 18: 18, 36, 54β¦
The LCM is 36 minutes, so they ring together at 6:36 a.m.
