About our Math & Numbers worksheets

Early maths is far less about arithmetic than most adults remember. Before a child can add, they need to know that the last number they said when counting is “how many there are” — a leap called cardinality that arrives somewhere around age four and cannot be hurried. The worksheets here follow that sequence: counting sets, matching a numeral to a quantity, comparing which group has more, and only then adding and subtracting within ten. Children who are pushed to written sums before that foundation is in place tend to become accurate but fragile — fine on a worksheet, lost the moment a problem is worded differently. If a child hesitates on "how many altogether", drop back to counting objects for a week. It is not a step backwards; it is the step the sums are built on. Every sheet in this category is free to print, and most take under ten minutes. That is deliberate: short, finishable practice done four times a week beats a long session at the weekend, particularly for children under seven whose attention for seated work is genuinely limited.
