About our Cut & Glue worksheets
Cutting is one of the most demanding fine motor tasks a young child attempts. It needs both hands doing different jobs at once — one steering the paper, one opening and closing the scissors — plus the hand strength to keep squeezing and the visual tracking to follow a line. It is genuinely hard, and it is exactly the coordination that later supports handwriting. The sheets here start with straight lines, move to curves and zigzags, and progress to cut-and-match and cut-and-sort activities where the pieces have to go somewhere specific. Snip strips first for a child who is new to scissors: short single cuts along the edge of a strip of paper, no line to follow, purely to learn the squeeze. Adult supervision is needed throughout, and left-handed children need left-handed scissors — right-handed ones obscure the cutting line for them and make an already hard task unfair.
