What this worksheet covers
This is an eighteen-question practice worksheet on large numbers and operations for Class 5, written to the pattern of the SOF International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). It carries 24 marks and is designed to be attempted in 45 minutes, split across three sections — Mathematical Reasoning, Everyday Mathematics and Reasoning and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key — so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.
Skills your child practises
- Applied problem-solving on large numbers and operations at Class 5 level
- Working accurately against a time limit, as the real paper demands
- Mathematical Reasoning questions in the olympiad format
- Everyday Mathematics and Reasoning questions in the olympiad format
- Achievers Section questions in the olympiad format
- Reading worked solutions to find the step that went wrong
How to use it

Sample questions from this worksheet
A preview of what's inside Large Numbers and Operations (Class 5) — the PDF has the full set, and every question comes with a worked solution like these.
1. What is the place value of 5 in 45,86,203?
- A5,00,000correct
- B50,000
- C5
- D5,00,00,000
Solution: In the Indian system, reading from the right the places are ones, tens, hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, lakhs and ten lakhs. The digit 5 sits in the lakhs place, so its place value is 5 × 1,00,000 = 5,00,000.2. A factory makes 1,250 bulbs a day. How many bulbs will it make in the month of June?
- A37,500correct
- B38,750
- C36,250
- D31,250
Solution: June has 30 days.
1,250 × 30 = 37,500 bulbs.3. Consider the following statements.(i) The successor of the greatest five-digit number is the smallest six-digit number.(ii) Zero is the identity for multiplication.(iii) Dividing any non-zero number by itself gives 1.Which of the statements is/are correct?
- A(i) and (ii) only
- B(i) and (iii) onlycorrect
- C(ii) and (iii) only
- DAll three
Solution: Statement (i) is true — 99,999 + 1 = 1,00,000. Statement (ii) is false; 1 is the identity for multiplication, since a × 1 = a, while 0 is the identity for addition. Statement (iii) is true. Hence (i) and (iii).
