What this worksheet covers
This is an eighteen-question practice worksheet on knowing our numbers and whole numbers for Class 6, written to the pattern of the SOF International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). It carries 24 marks and is designed to be attempted in 45 minutes, split across three sections — Mathematical Reasoning, Everyday Mathematics and Reasoning and Achievers Section. Every question is multiple choice with exactly one correct option, and every one comes with a fully worked solution rather than just an answer key — so a child who gets one wrong can see where the reasoning went astray instead of only learning that it did.
Skills your child practises
- Applied problem-solving on knowing our numbers and whole numbers at Class 6 level
- Working accurately against a time limit, as the real paper demands
- Mathematical Reasoning questions in the olympiad format
- Everyday Mathematics and Reasoning questions in the olympiad format
- Achievers Section questions in the olympiad format
- Reading worked solutions to find the step that went wrong
How to use it
- 1There are 18 questions in this worksheet. All questions are compulsory.
- 2Each question has four options (A), (B), (C) and (D). Exactly one option is correct.
- 3Questions 1–15 carry 1 mark each. Questions 16–18 (Achievers Section) carry 3 marks each.

1. The smallest whole number is _______.
- A−1
- B1
- C0correct
- DThere is none
Solution: Whole numbers are 0, 1, 2, 3, … so the smallest is 0. Natural numbers, by contrast, start at 1.2. A shopkeeper sold 2,478 kg of rice in one month and 3,596 kg the next. Rounded to the nearest hundred kilograms, how much did he sell in the two months together?
- A6,000 kg
- B6,200 kg
- C6,074 kg
- D6,100 kgcorrect
Solution: Exact total = 2,478 + 3,596 = 6,074 kg.
Rounding 6,074 to the nearest hundred: the tens digit is 7, so we round up to 6,100 kg.3. Consider the following statements.(i) Every natural number is a whole number.(ii) Every whole number is a natural number.(iii) Division by zero is not defined.Which of the statements is/are correct?
- A(i) and (ii) only
- B(i) and (iii) onlycorrect
- C(ii) and (iii) only
- DAll three
Solution: Statement (i) is true — the natural numbers 1, 2, 3, … are all whole numbers. Statement (ii) is false; 0 is a whole number but not a natural number. Statement (iii) is true. Hence (i) and (iii).
